Pieris Jap Mix XXL
Popular evergreen shrubs, the most well known in the garden are Pieris japonica and its forms. Pieris produce clusters of small bell-shaped white or pink flowers in spring on sprays which are often quite large and freely produced. In addition many forms have showy young foliage which displays pink, red, orange or bronze colours in spring. This is highly ornamental and long-lasting. There are a number of variegated foliage forms available and varieties such as Pieris 'Flaming Silver' combine silver leaf variegation with highly noticeable red young growth. There are several dwarf forms available which can be grown in a container for many years, the two varieties 'Little Heath Green' and the variegated 'Little Heath' being well known. If there is space, Pieris formosa and its variants make magnificent specimens with handsome foliage as well as the bright spring display. These shrubs all require acid soil and are excellent in a woodland setting or grown in light shade with some protection. The largest forms are likely to achieve around 3 metres in height while the small forms may only reach half a metre at most.
