Gardening Tips
May: Recycling Water
Water is the most valuable resource for your garden and saving and recycling water you use in the garden can save you money. A good way to collect water for your garden is by investing in a water butt . It collects rainwater directly from your drain pipes and stores it for when you need it. We have a selection of different size water butts you can find here.
Another way of recycling water for your garden is to make use of grey water/ domestic water. This is water left over after doing the washing up or from the dish washer and even the bath! Plants actually show no damage or affects from standard detergents or soaps so the water is perfectly safe to use in plant watering, however strong chemicals in the water such as bleach should not be recycled for plants. It is not advised to store domestic water over periods of time as it can turn stagnant when left for too long.
During May you should water plants early and late in the day when the temperature is coolest to make the most of the water.
